Rock Creek Park doesn’t lack for winding, disorienting roads, but for the bicyclist in search of a ride that’s both scenic and rush-inducing, try Ross Drive. One of the park’s more obscure roadways, it winds its way up a hill south of Military Road. Built a century ago to provide picturesque views of Rock Creek Valley, it does not disappoint. Follow the gentle grades until you get onto Ridge Road southbound. At this point, shift to top gear and plunge down into the valley, leaning heavily through the hairpin turn at the end. You’ll feel like D.C.’s own Lance Armstrong—no steroids necessary.
