National Harbor
There’s only one place in town where you can enjoy a fake Irish bar, a fake vintage Americana bar, and a fake beach, and that’s National Harbor—the fakest neighborhood in the D.C. area. Technically people live there (it’s a designated U.S. census area), but you’d never know, since all signs of normal neighborhood life, like a full-service grocery store, are missing from the place. That’s not to say National Harbor isn’t kind of great. Everything there gleams, it’s paradise for the devoted patron of chain restaurants, and the place has a not-unpleasant Disneyesque vibe. National Harbor can do Disney one better, too: Rather than a $300 flight to Orlando, the harbor’s just a scenic water-taxi ride away.
