If you haven’t visited Edgewood and Brookland lately, you’re missing out: This Northeast corner of D.C. is quickly changing into a destination for lovers of good food and art. Monroe Street Market is a clever mix of apartments, restaurants, and 27 artists’ studios (otherwise known as the Arts Walk) right next to the Brookland-CUA Metro stop. It’s worth a stroll through this neighborhood to get a feel for this new arts scene that includes photography, painting, leather work, and printmaking. It also has a burgeoning retail corridor: Local artisans sell their wares alongside a newly opened bookstore for nearby Catholic University students. Quick tip: Keep an eye out for weekend farmers market announcements this summer.
