Yes, the Meaty Palmer from DCity Smokehouse is technically a turkey sandwich, but avoid comparing it to downtown deli fare. In this sandwich, thick slices of smoked turkey mingle with slabs of moist, chewy pork belly. One bite and all signs point to an impending food coma. But chef Rob Sonderman allays that disaster by topping the meat with smashed avocado and jalapeño aioli, countering some of that debilitating richness. Extraneous toppings and fancy bread aren’t necessary. Just pile those four perfect ingredients on toasted white bread, pair it with some house-made pickles, and be sure to wear comfortable pants.
