On 11th Street NW, the parade of strollers, Ergos, and slow-marching toddlers starts right when the work week ends. Before most Petworth or Columbia Heights hipsters have given so much as a thought to where to eat dinner, we parents have already swarmed the nearby bars and restaurants with our children. One, in particular, stands out: Meridian Pint may or may not be the most kid-friendly beer bar on the planet, but it’s got to be the best in D.C. With a kids menu listing real food (some of which is even nutritious!), cheerful servers, and balloons on the way out, the neighborhood joint is packed in the early evenings with young families—children munching on mac and cheese, parents eating whatever goes well with the latest one-off District-based brew. The Pint is happy to accommodate kids during the day, too. They recently let my wife and me drag our bike trailer onto the crowded patio for lunch, while our daughter, who’d fallen asleep on the way there, snoozed in it. The one thing they won’t help you do: Convince your kid to order vegetables.
