Suspended Animation at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
7th Street and Independence Avenue SW, (202) 633-4674
Over the last few years, the Hirshhorn has become one of the hottest tickets in town: Just ask the hundreds of people waiting to take a selfie with Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrors. The Kusama exhibit caps off an excellent year for the contemporary art museum, but away from the upstairs crowds, in the museum’s underground Black Box, was a hidden gem: Suspended Animation, a collection of groundbreaking digital video pieces that spoke to the uncanny valleys of life in the modern age, from virtual ecosystems to experiments in ASMR, by six artists that might have their own retrospectives at the Hirshhorn one day.
